More Is Better

Before you get too excited, I'm not talking about wine or chocolate!  The reference I'm making is to group fitness vs. self motivated individual fitness.  The more people you commit to...the better your chances if success.  If there is one thing I've learned over the last 7 years of working with women in group fitness is that they love to talk, share life stories, and stay connected for sanity reasons.  When you pair that with a great workout you get great physical results, a natural competitive edge to the class, a fun social opportunity, and best of all...long term commitment.

What does this mean for you?  If your looking for a way to make working out less work...your not going to find it.  If you looking for a way to make working out more enjoyable...find a group fitness class for women and sign up!  Get rignt in there and make a few friends.  Not only will you have something in common automatically, but built in accountability.  When you don't show up because your bed seemed warmer, or because you couldn't find your left shoe...Friend "A" will call you to find out why you missed class.

Another way to think of group exercise is to find a partner or 2.  Decide to meet for your workout at a certain time (6am in the cul-de-sac).  This way you'll feel bad about not showing up because the others actually got up early to make it and when your do show up...you'll always be glad you did.

So, now that I've got you thinking...start your summer plan off right and start working out today!

3 Lifestyle Changes to Make this Summer!

Summer is a fantastic time to start eating healthier and increasing your activity.   With fresh fruits and veggies and farmers markets, eating healthy should be a snap.

This summer take on these 3 changes for your family.

1.  No More Boxed Foods:  You can do better than that for your family.  Vow to quit buying mac n' cheese by the case.  No more noodle dishes, Hamburger Helper, or canned soup.  Do some searching and find recipes for your families favorite foods made from scratch.

2. Add more produce:  There is good reason why Weight Watches new plan allows you to eat most fruits and veggie without using any points.  They are good for you!  We need them to grow, to help our organs function, and to burn for energy.  Try adding 1 fruit and 1 veggie serving to every meal for every member of your family.  Double your veggies with that weekend BBQ, add some cut up melon and your family will be satisfied and filled with energy.

3. ACTIVE, ACTIVE, ACTIVE:  Heading into my first summer with 3 kids is scary.  What will we do?  Can I keep them busy? Will I get any work done?  Will we still get quality time together?  Yikes...now I'm really freakin' out.  My plan is to plan one activity a week that gets us moving together (ie. hike, bike ride, basketball game, etc.)  What about also having a list of fun activities they could do posted in your house.  With a 7 and 4 year old this works great because they need ideas and I don't always have them off the top of my head.

Remember, it's up to us to teach our kids how to live a healthy active lifestyle.  Have fun!

Watch for our work shop series for women starting June 1st.  Events will be hosted by Cool Beans Playhouse.
